The ceiling above the windows of the dome in Basilica 'Saint Peter' in Vatican, Rome, Italy, designed by Michaelangelo, decorated by work of many artists, is divided into sixteen ribs and many segments, with busts of the 16 popes buried in the basilica and the faces of Christ, Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. John the Baptist, various apostles, angels, the custodians of St. Peter's tomb and many cherubim, seraphim and winged angels. Above these 96 figures is the blue sky with stars and a Latin inscription around the eye: 'To the glory of St. Peter, Pope Sixtus V in the year 1590, the fifth of his pontificate'.
