Amazing picture of an extremely rare butterfly Leopard Lacewing (Cethosia cyane) with both male and female markings. The scientific definition for an insect that exhibits female and male characteristics at the same time is a 'gynandromorph'.
Gynandromorphism is an anomaly of the body, which arise from genetic mistake, formed during early embryonic cell division, due to a loss of a chromosome, when large areas of the body are with visually different signs. The right half of this Leopard Lacewing butterfly contains orange, black and white markings of the male, while the other wing is colored in the typical paler color of the female.
