The Great Mormon (Papilio memnon) is a large swallowtail butterfly with a wingspan of up to 150 mm that belongs to the family Papilionidae, widespread throughout Southeast Asia, India, China, Taiwan, southern Japan, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
It flies up to 2,100 meters in the Himalayas, but is also seen at lower sea level amongst the human habitation.
Adults inhabit forest clearings and are feeding by nectar from a variety of flowering species as poinsettia, jasmine, canna, and salvia. Larvae feed on citrus plants.
The male and female species of Great Mormon look in different way. There are two dozen recognized forms of Great Mormon female, some with tails, some without, that mimic other Swallowtail butterflies.
