For many years, the Christmas cards are used as private notes of good tidings, sent at Christmas time. The custom of sending Christmas cards is originated in the UK in 1843. 1000 specially designed cards were sold for one shilling each by the civil servant Sir Henry Cole and his friend John Horsley, who is an artist. Now they are very rare and worth thousands of pounds or dollars.
