Description: 'Portrait of Max Jacob' (1916, oil on canvas, Art Academy, North Rhine-Westphalia, Dusseldorf, Germany), a French poet, painter, writer, and critic (1876-1944), a painting by the bohemian artist and posthumous legend Amadeo Modigliani, influenced by the geometric style of Cubism. From the series of portraits of contemporary artists and Modigliani's friends in Montparnasse is the 'Portrait of Chaim Soutine' (1915, oil on board, National Gallery, Stuttgart, Germany), a Jewish painter expressionist from Belarus, forerunner of Abstract Expressionism and proponent of European style of Rembrandt, Chardin, and Courbet.
