The Adelie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) is a most widely spread penguin species, along with the Emperor penguin.
The Adelie is the littlest species of penguin in the Antarctica. Although they look cute and a bit clumsy on land, but in the water they’re pretty fast, as they’re built for swimming.
When the Adelie penguins are diving for food, they can hold their breath for up to six minutes and frequently reach 150 m. Adelies feed on tiny aquatic creatures, such as shrimp-like krill, but also eat fish and squid.
These Antarctic predators are one of the region's most fierce hunters.
